This war involves balls - the plastic kind and they are awesome. The best place we have found to purchase them is in St. George at KB Toys in the strip mall (just in case any of you would like to join in the tradition). The honest truth is that you could be hit with them 100 times and it will only really hurt once or twice. When Kyler joined our family we soon learned that we would need lots of balls and now have a laundry bin full. The bin is also full of bats - Kyler never tires of swinging. Batting practice in the house has since been cancelled due to the fact that Kyler is great at hitting line drives and although I try to keep the basement pretty kid friendly he has way to much power in his swing - which happens to make both of his grandpas' proud. Well, with this many balls around it was bound to happen, one day someone started throwing them at someone else and when it was discovered the pain was minimal the tradition began.

The War Has Begun
In our home, war exists. This war happens five to six times a year and the sides aren't always fair. No prisoners are taken and there never seems to be a decisive victory. Each team struggles to keep an ample supply of ammunition and every once in a while, a team breaks the rules of war and uses illegal weapons. As brutal as it sounds, the war usually lasts less than an hour and there is a zero fatality count although a few can still be found injured.
You can see that Andy isn't nice about it - his war is against the girls but he goes at them full throttle. He has great aim. It is a really good thing that the balls are soft.
The pictures I choose of the girls seem to look like they are under full attack. I'm not meaning to mislead, they really hold their own quite well. The balls just fly back and forth - and when too many of the balls end up under things, a treaty is called to gather all of the ammunition back into the game.
I think Keanna would have more hits if she wasn't so busy laughing and calling time out but she does have a great time battling.
Kyler may be small but don't let this deceive you. When he was one, we kept blocks in our front room. They weren't like the balls we use in battle - they HURT when you get hit by them - especially when you get nailed in the face. The blocks are no longer quite so accessible to Kyler but if you ever come to visit be prepared to have something thrown at you.
